Francis Turbine Test Rig (5HP output 15HP supply pump)
a) Test rig consists of a Francis water turbine designed for laboratory experimental purpose and to conduct test in metric units. The specifications of the turbine are as follows: -
Design Speed - 1500 RPM.
Capacity - 3.7 KW. (5.0 HP)
Design Head - 15-20m and 1800-2000 lpm.
The unit consists of a cast iron spiral casing, a bearing pedestal, a rotor assembly of shaft, gunmetal runner and brake drum all mounted on a suitable sturdy base. Aerofoil shaped gunmetal guide vanes are provided in the turbine to regulate the flow into the runner. The guide vane opening adjustment is made through a hand wheel and a suitable link mechanism. A conical draught tube is connected to the turbine outlet by a bend. For observing the flow at the runner exit, a transparent window made of thick perspex tube is provided in between the turbine casing and the draft bend. A rope brake arrangement with a set of dead weights and spring balance is provided for loading the turbine. Pressure gauge and vacuum gauge are fixed at the inlet and outlet to measure the net supply head to the turbine.
b) Water to the turbine is provided by a centrifugal pump set of 15 HP capacity. The pump operates on 440Volts, 3 Phase, 50 Hz line.
c) Other standard accessories include a star-delta starter, switch, flow control valve, suitable piping.
d) Flow measuring unit consists of a venturimeter of size 100mm with pressure taps connected to two pressure gauges mounted on a panel board.
e) The complete test rig is mounted on a storage tank of sutiable capacity. The tank is provided with FRP lining for total rust protection
Optional: Electrical loading for 1KW Hydraulic turbines (Francis and Kaplan):
Loading arrangement consists of a AC alternator directly coupled to the turbine.A switchboard consists of a row of bulbs connected to the alternator. These bulbs act as load and could be switched on individually for varying the load. An ammeter and voltmeter are provided to measure the load. Additional cost of the test rig with this option
