Closed Circuit Test Rig: Apparatus for measuring pressure due to impact of jet on vanes
a) Apparatus consists of a gunmetal vane located directly over a brass nozzle. Water under pressure flows through the nozzle and strikes the vane. This vane is connected to a differential lever with an adjustable no load weight and a set of dead weights to measure the jet impact force. The complete set up is fitted in an M.S. structural housing with a transparent window and a door for access to the nozzle and vane. A control valve and pressure gauge are fitted in the pipeline supplying water to the nozzle. A stopwatch and an M.S. collecting tank of size 45 liters. With gauge glass scale fitting, drain valve, and bend are provided to measure the flow rate.
b) The following two vanes are provided to conduct experiments.
1.Semi circular vane with angle of deflection 180 deg.
2.Horizontal flat vane with angle of deflection 90 deg.
c) A 220 volt AC, 0.5 HP, single phase monoblock ISI pumpset with suitable pipe fittings, strainer foot valve, and switch is provided to supply water to the test rig.
d) A sump tank of size 200 liters with suitable drain is provided to store the water. A strong iron stand fitted with wheels supports the complete test rig. The unit is moveable.
All tanks are provided with FRP lining for total rust protection
